Federal Government Changes Mortgage Financing Rules

 Jan 17, 2011 - New Mortgage Financing Rules

The Federal Government has annouced changes to CMHC Insurance qualifications.

The changes include:

1. REDUSING maximum amortization period to 30 years, from 35 years.

2. LOWER the maximum amount Canadians can borrow in refinancing their mortgages to 85 percent, from 90 percent, of the value of their homes.

3. WITHDRAW government insurance backing on lines of credit secured by homes, such as home equity lines of credit.
